Moving a small office load in Edinburgh can involve more planning than its package count suggests. A building’s stairs, lift and loading arrangements may determine the handling method. Before requesting transport, describe how equipment will reach the vehicle and where it must go at the destination.
The City of Edinburgh Council publishes information on parking dispensations and suspensions. If your movement needs an extended loading period or reserved space, check the current process with the council and agree who will arrange any required permission. Do not assume that booking a courier reserves the kerb outside the office.
Provide the exact entrance and loading point, any time restrictions and the distance to the goods. If the office has a rear service entrance, identify it separately from reception. Current street signs and the relevant permission govern the actual stopping arrangement.
Record the size and weight of desks, cabinets, printers and boxes after preparation. Confirm lift dimensions, usable capacity and whether access must be booked with building management. An item fitting into a lift does not establish that a heavy trolley and handling team can use it safely together.
Explain stairs, tight turns, door restrictions and floor protection requirements. Decide who dismantles furniture, disconnects equipment and brings it to the agreed handover point. Room-to-room movement and additional crew must be discussed explicitly rather than assumed from the word “delivery”.
Arrange access at the new office before collection begins. Identify where each item belongs and who will receive it. Label boxes by destination area without exposing confidential contents. Keep essential work equipment separate if it needs priority unloading.
Confirm whether the move includes only the specified load or also packaging and unwanted items. Disposal, installation and storage are separate questions. Changes to quantity or handling can affect vehicle choice and price, so update BHA before dispatch.
Use Scotland courier coverage for Edinburgh and BHA’s furniture access guide, then send the load list and both access arrangements. BHA will assess suitability and confirm availability.
