A used machine may have loose tooling, residual contents or a weight that the seller has only estimated. Before booking a Swansea workshop collection, establish how the item will be made ready for transport. A courier should arrive to an identified, prepared load rather than an unresolved dismantling job.
Record the model and any stands, tables or accessories travelling with it. Ask for reliable dimensions and weight for the actual load. If the machine will be dismantled, specify who will do that and provide measurements for the resulting pieces, not only the assembled unit.
Have an appropriate person disconnect and prepare the equipment. Identify sharp edges, moving parts, batteries or residual fluids before transport is accepted. Do not assume the driver can determine how an unfamiliar machine should be isolated, drained or lifted.
The original crate may no longer exist, so agree appropriate protection and a stable transport base. Secure loose components and label accessories. Explain if the load is top-heavy or has an uneven centre of gravity, and provide any available manufacturer’s transport instructions.
Photograph visible condition before collection and identify existing damage. The record should describe the item being handed over without pretending to be a full engineering inspection. A courier receipt does not certify that used machinery works correctly.
Swansea Council lists workshop and industrial premises, including units at Swansea Enterprise Park. For an individual site, obtain the exact unit, entrance and loading instructions from the occupier. Confirm the equipment and competent staff available at both ends.
If a forklift is available only at collection, explain how unloading will be achieved at delivery. Tail-lift suitability, ground conditions and any additional crew must be agreed before selecting the vehicle. Do not assume that fitting into a van establishes a safe handling method.
