“University of Exeter” is not a complete delivery instruction. A student residence, academic department and central mail operation can have different receiving arrangements. Before booking a courier, establish who is sending the goods, who can accept them and the specific address the recipient wants used.
The University publishes guidance for residence post and deliveries, as well as separate mail-room information. Read the guidance relevant to the actual destination and check with the recipient if anything is unclear. Do not assume that a process described for a University-managed residence also applies to another accommodation provider.
Include the recipient’s full name, building or residence name, room or department reference where required, and the correct postcode. Keep the recipient’s contact number with the courier booking. If the recipient asks for reception delivery, confirm that reception accepts the type and size of consignment being sent.
A desk, chair, printer or several storage boxes may need a different arrangement from routine post. Give the packed dimensions and weight of every item, whether anything is dismantled and how the goods will be moved to or from the vehicle. Mention stairs, lift dimensions, loading distance and any limits on vehicle access.
Ask who will be present for collection. Goods left in a bedroom are not ready for a kerbside handover, and permission to enter accommodation should never be assumed. If room collection or delivery is needed, discuss it explicitly and have the access and staffing arrangements confirmed before booking.
For personal belongings, separate the deadline to vacate a room from the time the destination can receive the load. If these windows do not align, raise the issue before dispatch. Storage, waiting or a second visit should not be treated as automatically included in a courier quote.
Label packages consistently and keep a count. Set aside personal documents, medicines and anything the customer needs immediately so they are not accidentally packed into the transport load. Tell BHA about unusual contents and valuable items before booking so suitability and applicable cover can be discussed.
Agree the authorised recipient and whether delivery to reception is acceptable. Request the delivery confirmation needed to reconcile the shipment. A signature for a set of boxes records a handover; it does not by itself confirm that every item inside has been unpacked and checked.
For Exeter courier enquiries, compare the timing requirements with economy transport options and send BHA the complete movement details. Availability and handling arrangements are agreed individually. BHA is not presented here as the University’s appointed courier.
Check the University’s residence post and delivery guidance and confirm the recipient’s current arrangements. Source checked 16 October 2026.
