Exeter Science Park Equipment Deliveries: A Courier Handover Checklist

An equipment delivery to a science or technology business needs more detail than the name of the business park. The courier must know which organisation is receiving the goods, which building to approach and who can accept them. Exeter Science Park publishes a visitor route and map, but visitor arrival instructions are not a substitute for a goods-delivery agreement with the recipient.

Confirm the receiving organisation and building

Ask the customer for the business name, building address, entrance and room or department reference. Confirm whether the driver should report to a central reception or go to a separate receiving point. If the goods are intended for a tenant, do not assume the park’s reception can accept them on that tenant’s behalf.

Provide a contact who knows about the delivery and can answer during the agreed window. For equipment needed by an installer or engineer, align the delivery with the recipient’s availability rather than simply the building’s opening hours. An early arrival is not helpful if nobody can accept a fragile crate.

Describe the equipment and its transport conditions

Give the packed dimensions, total weight, number of pieces and any orientation restrictions. Ask the equipment supplier how it should be packaged and secured for road transport. Include information about shock sensitivity, batteries, liquids or other contents that could affect acceptance. Do not assume that an ordinary courier booking includes temperature control, hazardous-goods handling or specialist installation.

If the item is valuable, state its value and ask what goods-in-transit cover and exclusions apply to the proposed movement. Packaging and handling instructions still matter even when insurance is available. A declared value alone does not establish that every risk is covered.

Agree the exact extent of delivery

Separate transport from unpacking, positioning, commissioning and removal of packaging. Specify whether the handover is at a loading point, reception or another agreed location. For heavy equipment, confirm the unloading method, available staff and any lift or doorway restrictions before the vehicle is booked.

Use a packing list or asset reference to match the delivered equipment with the order. Agree who records visible packaging damage and what delivery evidence is needed. Keep technical acceptance or commissioning checks separate from the physical receipt of the shipment.

Request an equipment transport assessment

BHA’s Exeter courier coverage and technology and electronics delivery information are starting points. Send the proposed equipment movement with both postcodes, the deadline, packaging details and handling requirements. BHA will confirm whether a suitable arrangement is available. This guide does not imply a supplier relationship with the Science Park or its tenants.
