A retailer’s returned goods may be going for repair, inspection, credit or resale. These are different instructions, even when the cartons look alike. For a Cardiff business booking a courier, identify the purpose and authorised destination of each return before the load is collected.
Ask the supplier or repair centre for the reference it requires and the address that accepts that type of return. The original dispatch address may not be the correct destination. Confirm whether all items are covered by one authorisation or need separate references.
Check the receiving hours and any booking-in requirements. A courier arriving with an unrecognised reference may be unable to complete the handover even if the goods belong to the recipient. Resolve commercial approval and credit questions directly with the supplier before dispatch.
Keep repair items separate from unopened resale stock. Label packages with neutral, usable references and record the item count. Tell BHA about damage that affects handling, including broken packaging, exposed edges, leaks or unstable loads. Faulty equipment may need a specific acceptance check rather than being treated like a new product.
Use packaging suited to the actual condition of the goods. The original carton may no longer protect the item if its internal supports are missing. Provide packed dimensions and weight and declare unusual contents before a vehicle is selected.
Give the collecting driver a clearly prepared load and a contact who can resolve discrepancies. Do not ask the driver to decide which products qualify for return or whether an item is complete. Those checks belong to the sending business and receiving supplier.
Agree what delivery evidence is needed. A signed handover confirms receipt of the consignment; it does not establish that the supplier has accepted a warranty claim, issued credit or approved the contents for resale. Keep the return authorisation and transport record together for later reconciliation.
Use Wales courier coverage for Cardiff and retail delivery information. Send the return references, load details and both postcodes. BHA will assess suitability and availability. This is general retail-return guidance, not a promise of repair acceptance or refund. Reviewed 16 October 2026.
