A closed toolcase can conceal missing accessories, loose equipment or contents that need special transport arrangements. For an Aberdeen engineer or business sending tools by courier, prepare an inventory before closing the case and identify the person responsible for releasing it. The driver cannot verify a complete working kit from its outer appearance.
Record the case number or asset reference and list the tools and accessories expected inside. Keep the detailed inventory with the responsible business contact and put a usable reference on the outside. If several cases look alike, number them clearly and record the total being handed over.
Secure loose contents and use suitable protection for delicate measuring equipment. A hard case is only helpful if its internal packing prevents movement and its latches are sound. Tell BHA about any equipment that requires a specific orientation or unusually careful handling.
Identify batteries, aerosols, oils, gas cartridges and other unusual contents before booking. Do not describe a case simply as “tools” if that hides items that could affect transport requirements. BHA must confirm what can be accepted and under what arrangement.
Give the packed dimensions and actual weight of each case. Toolcases can be dense, and several manageable individual cases can create a substantial total load. State the value and discuss applicable goods-in-transit cover and exclusions before agreeing the movement.
Give the collection site, entrance, job reference and person releasing the cases. For a work site or workshop, confirm whether the driver must report to security or a named department. Do not assume that a case left near a gate is available for collection without a responsible contact.
At delivery, identify who is authorised to receive the kit and the required time window. If the tools support an engineer travelling separately, coordinate their arrival without assuming the courier can wait indefinitely. Agree an alternative contact if the engineer is delayed.
If the kit must come back after the job, confirm the return-ready time, case count and packaging condition. Report missing components through the business’s own inventory process rather than treating a signature for closed cases as confirmation of their contents.
See BHA’s Scotland coverage for Aberdeen and urgent courier options. Send the case details and handover requirements for assessment. This is general tool-transport guidance and does not imply specialist calibration, dangerous-goods acceptance or a particular local contract. Reviewed 16 October 2026.
