Portsmouth Port-Related Spare Parts: Confirm the Delivery Point Before Dispatch

A part needed near Portsmouth’s port may be destined for a workshop, freight premises, contractor or vessel-related operation. These are not interchangeable delivery addresses. Before requesting a courier, identify the organisation responsible for receiving the part and where it can legally and practically accept a road delivery.

Identify the receiving site

Portsmouth International Port publishes separate information about finding the port and about contractor access. A contractor induction process is not automatically the process for a courier delivery. Ask the receiving organisation which instructions apply to this particular visit, and pass them to BHA before dispatch.

Give the complete address, named gate or entrance, department and direct contact number. Ask whether the site needs advance driver identification, vehicle details or a delivery reference. Do not assume that a booking with BHA provides port access or permission to approach a vessel. If the agreed handover is outside a restricted area, describe that point precisely.

Make the spare part ready for release

Confirm the supplier has the correct part number and quantity packed and available. Give the order or collection reference under which the supplier will release it. If a third party purchased the part, make sure the supplier knows who is authorised to collect on their behalf.

Provide packed dimensions and weight and identify any unusual contents. Batteries, oils, aerosols and used components with residual fluids must be declared before acceptance. A generic description such as “ship spares” is not enough to assess vehicle suitability or any special transport requirements.

Connect the handover to the work schedule

Explain the latest useful arrival time and when the receiving person will be available. If the delivery supports a maintenance appointment, give that context without assuming the appointment creates a feasible courier deadline. BHA must assess the route, ready time and available vehicle.

Agree the delivery evidence required and a contact for access problems. If a failed part will be returned, include its condition, packaging and return reference in a separate instruction or the agreed round-trip booking. The return is not automatically covered by the outward delivery price.
