Axminster Workshop Machinery Collections: Weight, Packaging and Loading

Moving workshop machinery from Axminster starts with the load specification, not the van size. A compact machine can be heavy, top-heavy or difficult to secure. Before booking collection, ask the owner or supplier to describe how the machine will be prepared and loaded, then give BHA the information needed to assess a suitable movement.

Use the transport weight and dimensions

Provide the machine’s weight together with the weight of its pallet, crate and accessories. Measure the packed load at its widest, longest and highest points. If the manufacturer’s specification is used, check that it applies to the exact model and configuration being collected. Extra tables, stands or tooling can change the transport footprint.

Tell BHA if the load is top-heavy or has an uneven weight distribution. Include any manufacturer’s lifting or transport instructions. A machine that fits through a vehicle’s doors is not automatically within the safe payload or compatible with the proposed loading equipment.

Have the machine made ready by a competent person

Arrange disconnection, dismantling and preparation before the courier arrives. Loose accessories should be secured and listed, and exposed parts protected appropriately. Discuss residual fluids, batteries, sharp edges or other unusual features before booking. Do not expect the driver to decide how to disconnect or dismantle unfamiliar machinery.

Use a suitable pallet, skid or crate where required by the handling plan. The person preparing the load should ensure it is stable and can be moved using the agreed equipment. Stretch wrap alone should not be treated as a substitute for securing a heavy machine to its transport base.

Check loading equipment at both premises

Confirm who supplies and operates the loading equipment, whether the load can be approached from the rear or side and whether the ground is suitable. A forklift at the seller’s workshop does not solve unloading at a buyer’s garage. Give BHA the actual delivery conditions before the vehicle is selected.

If a tail lift is proposed, its suitability depends on the load, platform and safe working limits, as well as the site. Ask for the method to be confirmed rather than assuming that all tail-lift vehicles can handle the same machinery. Additional crew or specialist handling is by agreement.

Arrange the Axminster movement

Use BHA’s South West coverage, including Axminster, and pallet delivery information. Send the specification and both postcodes, with the ready time and unloading arrangements. BHA will assess acceptance, vehicle availability and handling requirements. This is general machinery-transport guidance; it does not imply an affiliation with any Axminster machinery retailer.
